Altes Museum today houses a collection of classical art
and sculpture from ancient Greece to the Roman Em-
pire, as well as the largest collection of Etruscan art out-
side of Italy. Among its treasures are portrait busts of
Caesar and Cleopatra.
The Pergamon Museum is Berlin’s most popular mu-
seum with more than one million visitors each year. It

The Neues Museum (New Museum) was originally be-
gun in 1841. It was destroyed during World War Two
and the rebuilding did not begin until1999. It reopened
in 2009 to house an unparalleled collection of prehis-
toric artifacts, early history and classical antiquities, as
well as the Papyrus Collection and the Egyptian Muse-
um. The pride of the museum is the famous bust of the
ancient Egyptian queen, Nefertiti.
